Prequel from KaiChi, The New Zero

Since last week, the Plant A Douce conscious living community had just passed one thousand followers on our social media platform; meanwhile; we have also reached other small achievements on our weekly Douce Journal performance since our debut in March 2018.

One thousand means that us, a small group of conscious men and women, have started participating in and learning of the joy of making social change. But one thousand also means a brand new stepping stone -another zero we can build upon once again. The concept of “debut” paints a picture of our connections and the people who have created this system- with not only their best spiritual support, but with inspiration and contribution with their creativity everyday since. Amanda Leon- lino print illustration artist and social media influencer- is one of them.

Meeting Amanda Leon,
Visual Influencer Through Art Meditation

Scrolling through all Instagram feeds under hashtags #yogainspiration #yogaart #seasonalfood, you will probably halt your finger for a second when crossing over Amanda’s grid, and let your eyes quickly recognize a suspended moment of peacefulness from all the photos-beautiful poses, mantras, or sophisticated art.

An artist in multimedia, illustration and cinematography, she presents a kind, quiet but friendly first impression and personality. Amanda has a splendid world of imagination where she modestly delivers inspirations of well-being through the powerful language of art. We are connected immediately with her atypical and very personal illustration style that illuminates people in everyday life.

“it’s my way to communicate with others. The language of art is universal..”

BEFORE YOU WERE ON INSTAGRAM, YOU WERE A VISUAL DESIGNER IN A FILM PRODUCING COMPANY. TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL LOVE WITH LINO PRINT AND ILLUSTRATION. WHEN DID IT START? HOW HAS IT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

I have always been drawing and working with art my entire life- it’s my way to communicate with others. The language of art is universal.

Lino printing is just one of the technique that I explored while still studying fine art in university. The process of engraving- through the repeating gesture, is creating a self conversation at the same time, dialogue with the material and the evaluated ideas throughout. For me, working on lino printing is almost like a meditation- it keeps my mind peaceful and steady, makes me feel joy and joyful to experiment different permutations and possibilities once a stamp base is created.

I love to play with multimedia. Combining lino printing and illustration was just another natural experiment, trying to translate the softness and gentle dynamic from yoga movement, which I have been practice for years. I will maybe never become a yoga teacher, but I hope to share the benefits of how it gradually improves my health, and also makes me into a more conscious living person.

IN ADDITION TO YOGA, YOUR GALLERY REFLECTS A DEEP PASSION FOR HUMANITY, WELLNESS, SEASONAL FOOD, and SELF-CARING LIFESTYLE. WHAT HAS NOURISHED YOU IN ALL THESE FOCUSES?

Vandana Shiva, a doctor in physics and an activist of environment, food justice and women's rights, has recently presented her new book Who really feeds the world? She is The person who best explains the importance of a more just and more respectful food system with the planet. Shiva criticizes industrial agriculture and genetic modification, which cause many diseases and hunger in the world. She also defends for agricultural justice and genuine sustainability issues based on her studies.

What she had wrote in the book, gave me a clear example of the importance that the feminist, environmental and civil rights struggles all come together- because in essence they have common objectives: A more just, more noble world.

I always firmly believe that the way we eat and the food we eat have vital importance to our health and the health of the planet. It also entails a great responsibility to position ourselves before society and the system in which we want to live. As consumers, we have great power to stand for the right things, and one of the main subject of consumptions is Food.

“As consumers, we have great power to stand for the right things, and one of the main subject of consumptions is Food.”

TODAY, THESE VALUES and YOUR DEDICATION TO PRODUCING CONTENT THAT REFRESHes your AUDIENCE’S EYES AND MIND, ENABLED YOU TO GROW a Consistent FOLLOWING ON INSTAGRAM. TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE, FROM AN ARTIST TO INFLUENCER. WHAT IS THE FUTURE MESSAGE YOU PROMOTE?

One of my greatest interests lately lies in becoming more aware and responsible for the sustainability of the planet. This is leading my personal life to a change of mentality, also in the way I consume and think of the relationship to the environment behind each behavior. It is not an easy change, because as I said, it must start with a change of mentality and then transit into a change of habits.

Like most audiences, we have been obsessed with Amanda’s unique artistic eyes and works to demonstrate the aesthetic of meditation, yoga and body movements, which helps prepare the mindset to transition. Being more mindful of that responsibility has a powerful ripple effect that can transform our own life, the planet and the lives of other people and animals for the better.

Very special thanks to Amanda and her continuous contribution, support and love to Plant A Douce. She was not only the first conscious platform we interviewed in August 2017, but one of the most important conscious influencers inspiring us to make this community happen on an international level.
